SPONGEBOB LOVE

On his first birthday, he wore a muti-colored-custom-made clown costume because my wife and I decided to have a Finding Nemo themed birthday party at home with our parents, relatives, friends. He then matched the real clowns present on his day.

His second birthday party was done at McDonald’s Greenhills.  He had two birthday cakes and more than 50 guests.  Grimace, the mascot graced the occasion.

My wife, my parents and I only went to TriNoma mall in Quezon City with him and had dinner at a Filipino restaurant called Mangan with his 3 mini-cakes that we bought from Breadtalk on his third birthday.

He went to preschool before his fourth.  Since then, he already has his own preference.  At his Nursery class, he had Mr. Bean themed party complete with party hats and all that’s fun.

For his fifth birthday…

The THEME : Someone who lives in a pineapple under the sea! 😀

The INVITES…IMG_4063We were working on a budget and my wife can’t tolerate crowded stinky places as she easily feels dizzy, worse her vertigo might be triggered,  not to forget she wasn’t off from duty at the Opeating Room, so I was alone when I went to the basement of Divisoria Mall in Manila  just to buy these fancy invites for PhP 2 per piece.  168 Mall didn’t have the supplies I was looking for.

I grew up going to the streets of Ylaya, Tabora and Juan Luna in Divisoria every start of a new school year with my parents, whenever they buy us (me and my 3 brothers) new sets of things for school : from socks, undergarments, hankies, etc. in some Chinese-owned wholesale store.  So buying stuffs for my own kid now and haggling were so damn easy for me. 😀

The LOOT BAGS…IMG_4118I honestly thought of having paper instead of plastics for the loot bags as I am concerned, believe it or not, with the environment.  But I failed to find commercially available paper bags with the prints in line with the party theme and I and my wife had no time doing art works made of paper just for the loot bags. These cost PhP 20 per 10 pieces (also PhP 2 a piece).

What’s inside the loot bags? Each has a hand towel (PhP 75 per dozen) , a pencil (PhP 15 per dozen), a pad of stickers (PhP 3 per pad) and  a plastic sheet of stickers (PhP 2.25 per sheet), fruttos candies, marshmallows and lollipops (PhP 120 for 5 packs from the Landmark in TriNoma), and…. that’s it!  We’re on a budget, remember? LOL 😀

The CAKE…IMG_4164I guess for every Pinoy-children’s party,  Goldilocks cake doesn’t disappoint.  This choco-marble-flavored Spongebob- fishing-for-Jellyfishes-theme (less the Jelly fishes for they ran out of stock and were replaced with gold choco coins with my consent–didn’t I just tell you they don’t disappoint? LOL) 🙂 was ordered 2 weeks ago at a branch near our place for PhP 855;  inclusive of the cake and the themed decor.  It’s a bit expensive for a low-key party but heck, what’s a themed party without a themed cake?

The FOOD…IMG_4136The party meal was prepared, cooked and packed by my wife, Tina (applause, applause!). The photo above doesn’t give justice to how the food tasted. Those breaded chicken fillets were deep fried to its crispiest; and the macaroni in beefy sweet tomato sauce was also a winner.  The kids loved it.

Did I do any cooking? Hmmm, I did slice the hotdogs into pieces and, believe it or not again, I cooked the gravy!  I just mixed flour in water, heated the pan with water, 3 chicken cubes, soy sauce and a bar of Anchor butter into boil and voila! – chicken gravy tasted better than Jollibee’s, LOL.  The kids loved it too!

The GIFTS…IMG_4173His classmates were sweetest to give presents. It’s a mutual thing between them. 😀

The PARTY PEOPLE…IMG_4155….Children are a gift from the Lord!

Our smiles went up to our ears when we heard comments, “ang sarap!…, ang cute ng cake!… ang sarap ng food!”  from these kids.  You know children don’t tell lies 😀

The BIRTHDAY BOY…IMG_4146

Our son’s birthday wish for a Spongebob Squarepants themed party was granted. Thanks to the mighty forces behind the successful simple event –myself and my wife 😀

Seriously, we thank the Lord for His endearing Love and we can’t thank Him enough for blessing us with Gabby.

On our part, we always pray for Gabby to have a better health- away from any sickness and for him to be safe at all times.

Gabby :  (while on his facebook) Daddy, ano pong spelling ng THANK YOU?

Tatay-doc : 😀

We love you Gabby!

😀 What’s your fondest memory of your own kiddie party?Don’t you just miss being a kid?

  1. Is it only the picture or Gabby was really taller compared to his classmates? (tangkad-sagad)

Techie pala itong si Gabby, nagfa-facebook na.

Na-try ko na rin magluto ng macaroni sphagetti pero ako lang ang nagtiyagang kumain dahil di nagustuhan ng ate at nanay ko ang lasa.

    1. gabby is really taller & bigger for his age.
and yes, he started young with computers. but of course, we gave him limitations to its use.
i guess every child in his generation is techie than we were years ago.

  2. Wow what a nice kiddie party and I love the theme, sponge bob my son likes him too. We had a bday party for my son over there in the Philippines when he was 2 and I also went to Divisoria I bought a lot of Winnie the pooh stuffed toys as the gifts for the kids instead of loot bags and they were cheap. Tinamad kasi akong magpack isa-isa e hehe. But your food is superb parang jollibee na hehe, macaroni and chicken and applause for both of you! Galing ng teamwork nyo.

  3. I don’t think my birthday was ever celebrated until I was able to pay for it LOL. No offense intended to my departed parents – they are the best in the world bar none.

  4. wow buti pa si Gabby, he can celebrate his birthday with friends from school. Since my birthday is in MAY, I didn’t got the chance to celebrate my day with friends up until I had my debut. Minsan pahirapan pa mag invite coz MAY is the start of Typhoon season back in my day.

Parang ang sarap nga ng chicken n mac spaghetti. Wala ba itong recipe??

Iba talaga pag magulang ka na, ibibigay mo lahat para maging masaya sila especially on their birthday. Bravo doc gelo and ms. tina! 🙂

    1. thanks, ingrid.

with regards to the recipe of that party meal:
      for the macaroni :
-elbow macaroni pasta; boil in water with dash of oil/butter to aldente not more than 10mins.
-clara ole sweet style spaghetti sauce
      -hotdogs
-monterey ground beef (we don’t buy from other meat shops)
      -liver spread
-grated cheese mixed to the sauce
-brown sugar, salt, pepper to taste

      for the chicken :
      -magnolia chicken breast fillet
-tempura breading + all purpose flour
just dip each slice of fillet to the mixture of batter and dip fry in oil.

      for the gravy :
      -anchor butter
      -soy sauce
      -chicken cubes
      -water + flour 😀

  5. What a cute Spongebob Squarepants party for kids! Gabby looks very happy and you must be very proud. I was in Davao last month when my 3-year-old niece celebrated her birthday with a Little Mermaid theme and the noise from all those kids was so electric I felt young again.

  6. dear gabby,

    happy birthday!

i’m inggit with the loot bag! tell your dad, not to feel bad that it is plastic, one can always re-use them as sandwich bags. i’m inggit with the food prepared by your mom, too… this is way better than any gourmet macaroni you have tasted and will be tasting. and of all… i am soooo jealous of your cake! it’s gorgeous 😀

the best birthdays for me are the ones in which my mama would wake me up with a greeting & kiss – she will always be the first to do so, my birthday gift would be beside my pillow 🙂 then she would bring me to church to hear mass and then later for the afternoon merienda, we would enjoy a birthday cake, spaghetti and ice cream shared with the whole family. the best!

no party held in any fastfood complete with theme and mascots, baloons and endless games can ever beat celebrating it with friends and having your parents prepare everything for you — from cooking the food to shopping for your loot bags — nothing beats this kind of love :), this kind of celebration is one you will miss when you are all grown up and living in the world of take outs, ipods, emails and text messages. so savor these and capture the moments…

    God bless you, anne

ps : tell your dad i like your cake so much i will re-post it my own blog as a random nice thing 🙂

    1. wow, anne! i’m so overwhelmed by this. thank you so much.
you don’t have any clue how well your comment made my weekend. 😀

sure, by all means, you can repost the photo of gabby’s cake in your random nice things. salamat, sobra! God bless you too.

  7. hi gabby! fave mo pala si spongebob ah! pareho kayo ng pamangkin ko! 🙂

oo nga looks yummy! apir kay tina! 🙂

ps: buti pinayagan na di ka uniform si gabby anoh hehe 😉

    1. hi dyanie! gabby says he likes spongebob, mr. bean, ben 10 and lots of characters from cartoon network and nickelodeon channels.

      tina says thank you 😀

it’s a cute rule in their preschool to allow birthday celebrators not to wear uniforms on their special day.

  8. Wow! That is a great party !
I am sure your son deserves it… wow…he is already on facebook… soon he will have his own blog and compete with you for the “blog awards” 😉
He indeed seems more mature than his classmates. No wonder since you coach him so well. Doing things together as a family is very important !
Wish your son a belated happy birthday !

    1. perhaps after preschool or whenever he’s ready, i will inspire Gabby to put up his own blog… Philippine Blog Awards then has to put up a new category for kids, ha ha ha ha… there won’t be any competition bewteen us. hehehe.. in fact, he and my wife are my team mates here. i just put up this blog so that one day, when we’re old and gray, there’ll be something to read and reminisce good times particularly our son’s growing years.
      thanks, Sidney!

  9. hi there.. we’re having a spongebob birthday party for my nephew next week.. just would like to ask where particularly in divisoria did you buy those items? thanks!

    1. Hello. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Regarding your query, you may find cheap spongebob items from loot bags, crayons, party hats, hand towels, pencils etc at Divisoria Mall –it’s located at the mid half of Tabora Street in Divisoria. Just ask for directions at anyone there about Divisoria Mall; it’s easy to locate whether you’ll be coming from Juan Luna via Lawton or Recto Ave.

My son’s cake last year was pre-ordered for a week at Goldilock’s.

Good luck on your Spongebob Party!

  10. thanks for the superfast response!:) ill be heading there tomorrow (my first time) to buy the items.. RE: cake, yes, i have already pre-ordered one from goldilocks… thanks again!

Thank you for your comments!
