OUR SATURDAY MOVIE DATE

After almost two days of rains here in the Metro brought about a typhoon that hit Central and Northern Luzon, Mr. SUN shone again in the blue skies. Although there were still little downpour in between, important thing  was we were able to enjoy the weekend and had family FUN time again.

My wife Tina with our 4-year-old-son Gabby and I arrived at Greenbelt 3 in Makati yesterday around half hour past 1 PM.  We headed straight to the Greenbelt cinemas and bought these ….

I’m not reading its book, so I cannot compare the 6th movie version with the novel of J.K. Rowling.  I am a kid-at-heart so you can’t blame me if I state that I like Harry Potter series and its latest offering, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.  I am just thankful that my wife is also into following the events in Hogwarts School of Wizardry where the main characters meet.

It was a revelation on our part that Gabby isn’t ready yet for such movie genre.  Although we’ve brought him to so many cinemas and watched movies several times already, and not to forget that this latest HP movie is rated as GP,  he got bored after 20 minutes of the film.  Why?  It was a bit talkie compared to the five prequels, but this one has more humor which is great.  Less of the actions, but was able to explain the secrets behind the Dark Lord Voldemort.  And since years have passed after the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was shown, the main characters of Harry, Ron and Hermione all grew up physically and eventually, hormones were ranging left and right!

Now, here’s the summary and some photos that are remarkable about this sequel of HP.

SYNOPSIS :   Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simmering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again. ( SOURCE )

  1. Havent read any Harry Potter book, but I still watched it last Thursday when classes were suspended hehe!! I liked the story and the fact that it is really entertaining. 🙂

    1. good you liked the movie too. kasi wife ko medyo nanibago; among the HP movies daw, according to her, this one lacked some adventures, actions, and less magic. i also agree with her comparing this movie with prisoner of azkaban, goblet of fire, order of phoenix and the other prequels, but IMO, the continuation of the story alone is more than enough reason to watch and enjoy it (if you’re a kid-at-heart). 😀

  2. Hahah! Let us wait for another 5 or 6 years at manghihinayang si Gabby kung bakit ngayong 2009 ipinalabas ang The Half-blood Prince. By that time sigurado parang the current Ron at Harry na rin ang thinking niya when it comes to women.

I watched Harry Potter 6 on its opening day here in Australia, and for 30 months of staying in this country, first time kong nakitang puno ang sinehan, at nakapila ang mga manonood for the next run of the movie!

Maganda. Papanoorin ko ulit mamaya sa Adelaide! o”,)

    1. no doubt doc rj that HP is one of the record-breaking movies all over the globe. glad to know that it’s also a hit in land down under.

i’ll soon collect original dvds of harry potter and other collectible movie-series, that i know our son will enjoy when he gets to watch it as he grows older.

happy weekend doc rj, go see HP over and over! 🙂

  3. My wife, daughters 11 and 13 and I saw Harry Potter 6 at the new Imax theater at SM Edsa North.
We all liked it a lot, we wished the 3 d portion of the movie had been longer but the IMAX theater did seem to draw you more into the experience.

    1. nice to know you also had fun watching HP 6. i guess my son prefers cartoons for now and is not ready yet for adventures and movies of magic like HP6. perhaps if he reaches the age of your kids, he’ll enjoy it too as much as we did.
      happy weekend, mel. 🙂

  4. I saw this last Friday (was already on my way to review class when I was informed it was cancelled) and I have to say, I enjoyed this one, due to the fact that I was not able to review the book prior to watching, which I have done in the previous HP movies haha. The CGI was super cool (the scene inside the cave, allright no spoilers hehe), and I found the overall plot entertaining. Book 7 is divided in 2 movies so it should be the best with less cuts and all, can’t wait for it! 😀

  5. I enjoyed it too because i viewed it as a movie but not as a book comes to life type.. I regard it as my favorite HP movie because scenes were magnified, emotions were there and there were so much drama on it, it’s like.. hindi na sya pang bata talaga..and I liked it more kase talagang preparation for the last two installment ng HP.. but of course when compared to the book, mahirap magsalita kase di ko naman nabasa ang mga libro just some synopsis from wiki 🙂

    Make or Break

  6. hey doc, i just watched this today… too late for a harry potter fanatic like me. busy lang talaga. the movie is good and enjoyable but then, being a harry potter book fan, i felt it lack memorable scenes like how the students faought with the death eaters when they tried to take over hogwarts and memory revisits on how voldemort turn out to be the dark lord. but like what i said… i had fun despite those missing scenes 🙂 harry rules!

    1. anne, nice to have you back here and glad to know HP fanatic ka din pala..
well, i envy you for finding time reading the series.
perhaps when time comes that i’ll be more laid back, and gabby’s grown older, we’ll both read and watch HP all over again… di nakakasawa, sobra. 🙂
      can’t wait for the 2part-finale.

  7. Bianca and I, together with our UST friends, watched the movie on it’s opening day, last full show. Though madami na kaming narinig na reviews from people who’ve watched it plus Bianca’s unending pooping about what’s going to happen (she based it from the book), I still enjoyed it. I have finished reading the first 5 books and planning to read the 6th one. Disappointingly, the HP movies are different from the books (Syempre nga naman, mahirap ipagkasya sa 2+ hours ang lahat ng detalye na nasa libro).

But above all the differences between the books and the movies, I still love watching it! Seeing the three main characters grow and bloom from being cute kids to gorgeous adolescents, and the magic and actions. I can’t wait for book 7 to come out in cinemas! 🙂
